The seminar will be led by the Program Leader of Biodiverse Environment, Dr. Reinier Ris Lambers from Wageningen Environmental Research (WUR) and the Chief Scientist of the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), Dr. Michiel Shaeffer. Leading scientists from WUR will tackle the role and potential of Nature Based Solutions (NBS) to address climate-change adaptation challenges across main development sectors, including coastal protection, food systems, cities and urban areas.

The seminar will start with an overview and long-term vision for NBS in the climate change agenda followed by specific reviews and perspectives to mainstream NBS into adaptation in various development sectors. Each of the sectors will be presented aiming at analyzing the potential for NBS in addressing specific climate risks, sharing evidence generated on the challenges to scale specific NBS illustrated with implementation examples, and finally presenting the way forward for a business case for NBS.

The session aims at providing and overview and analysis on the progress towards mainstreaming NBS in the global adaptation agenda and future steps to bring adaptation actions at scale across global regions.
